Juniors better at the war of buttons./Karel Jílek /Photo J.Křenek

As it turned out in the first event, with the more buttons on the steering wheel the better for the juniors, freshmen included, while the old boys make stupid mistakes. One example for all, Quick Nick didn't make it from the first qualification intended for the losers of the second league, while Petrov in the same car got to the podium. The same fiasco it was for Barrichello, first in the gravel in the practice, then in the race he hit Rosberg in a big way and got lapped afterwards. Schumacher suffered through the practice and didn't get to the top ten, although it is within the possibilities of his car. Then after the start he had his tire cut, understood the futility of his efforts and gave up. Massa is slow, in the practice overspins right at the exit from the pit lane and all he can do in the race is to block the others. It is ironic that that made Button so angry that it send him overtaking by cutting the track, getting penalized and consequently losing the race. The question is, where was the McLarens' prefect management, that wasn't able to slow him down.

On the other hand a twenty-one year old Perez driving the first race in his life in the average Sauber, saves the tires for one pit stop, comes the seventh and gives a pretty hard time to Button on the last laps. The cum laude goes to Di Resto who is equal to the experienced Sutil in his first time.

Now for the race itself. It had been obvious since the first practice that Red Bulls have the upper hand, only followed in great distance by McLarens and Alonso. Petrov's third row ahead of both Rosberg and Massa was a surprise. Also Kobayashi and Buemi made it to the last part of qualification, who were able to repeat the same in the final classification. It is interesting that, except for Rosberg changed for by Perez, the starting top ten is pretty much the same, with little alteration, like the final standings.

In conclusion we might summarize. The winning current World Champion was in a different league and didn't let anybody close to him. Also Hamilton, starting from the second position, apart from a small trouble with his floor, didn't have any problems to repeat his podium standings. Petrov is a major surprise, getting better from the sixth place to the podium. The situation in Ferrari is a little bit inconsistent. Alonso did probably the maximum to leave Webber and mistake making Button behind him, however Massa's performance, regardless his fastest lap, must be frustrating even for himself. Well, he finished behind both novices with average Saubers. The situation in Mercedes is even worse, as neither driver saw the finish line and need to forget Australia as soon as possible.
