The communication with Sahara Force India was very pleasant with a successful end. You could say there was the will to help us, but still the term kept being changed for one reason or other, in the end the choice changed from the original Friday to Thursday 26 July 2012, at 4pm at Hungaroring during the Hungarian GP. We had several phone numbers of the team's assistants and the company manager Will Hings was there for us as well.
The glassmakers from Rückl Crystal, a.s. in Nizbor got their order about two months earlier, like each year and I could collect the cups at the company owner, ing.Jiri Ruckl, about two weeks before I would hand them over. We nicknamed the cups to be 'wingchairs' as they have two large ear-shaped handles.
As usually we got well prepared for the journey, the worries about D1 in the Brno direction made us set off with a two-hour head start. We left Unhost at 4.30, whereas the photographer MgA Jiri Krenek (www.activepictures.cz) and the owner of Sport-press, s.r.o. Dr.Petr Dufek (starting at 7am from Prague) would join us later. We would meet about 20km before Budapest and we would follow them through Budapest to the circuit.
But now, let me come back to the journey. I drove with my wife, co-owner of the project of Formula1 and MotoGP - www.constructorsf1.com, www.climberf1.com and www.climbermotogp.com.
The ride in Honda Civic 5D was pleasant as usual, in spite of the fog until Bratislava. We took several coffee breaks to stretch a little. The very first stop in Hungary was "amazing"- immediately some men of Romany persuasion appeared at our car and one of them washed the windscreen. I am not stingy, so I gave him 1 Euro. Before I knew how there were another 4 guys for their euro, flanking the car, there wasn't a living soul at the parking place, just this gang. We hopped into the car and drove away. The second break was similar and, seeing almost the same mob I just passed through the gas station. The third break was already the planned break 20 km before Budapest.
Everything went well there, even if it was raining pretty heavily around 10am. The restrooms at the parking space were ok. However, having some time on our hands, as the other team was somewhere close to Bratislava at that time, we decided to 'visit' Hungary. We left our station and headed to a close town - Bicske -and in dawned on us in Lidl that they have the same goods like in our country, even if in a different language and I, despite my diabetes, got a craving to sample some Hungarian biscuits. When we tried to pay, we didn't succeed with Euro and had to leave empty handed with sour taste in our mouths. We returned to our gas station. But my wife wanted to bring some original Hungarian paprika for her colleagues, so we walked through the gas station shop and bought some spices. But what happened, paying 26.9 Euro, I gave the cashier one twenty Euro and two fives and didn't get any change in return. Having complained (I don't speak Hungarian) in German the man apologized and I got my change. Another, already third negative experience - so far Hungary hadn't been too positive for us.
As soon as our friends appeared around 1pm, we went towards the circuit. From then on the situation in our car looked similar to the films with Luis de Funes, my wife saying at one point "How long have you been driving, sister?" With my teeth clenched I stuck with the car in front of us, feeling like in a Formula 1, until we made it to the entry road to the Hungarian GP circuit. We parked in the Media Parking and waiting for a lady we knew as Paola over the phone. At about 4pm a Mercedes Benz Viano appeared with a young pleasant lady smiling at us. Everything got a clear direction from then on.
In the background you can see dr.Petr Dufek, who had accompanied us, and everything fotografoval.Jiří Krenek after the ceremony had to work again.
She drove us to the circuit, we walked through the motorhome lane until we reached the one belonging to Sahara Force India.
I took a look around, of course, and met the RTL commentator K.Ebel, we talked some, also about the Climber of the Year in F1.
At 4pm we got introduced to Will Hings who was responsible for communication since the beginning.
In a moment arrived Mark Gray the team's boss assistant. We handed over the Climber of the Year in F1 2011 to the team, followed by the hand over to the driver, Climber of the Year in F1 2011 Paul di Resta, who was really interested in the poll.
We got a guided tour of the garage, we also saw a brand new Mercedes powerhouse, covered by a blanket, also a complete front axle, which is taken care of by McLarens's engineers. We also took some pictures in front of the garage. Even for my wife it was an experience of a lifetime. We would like to thank to the team and to all who made that possible.
The way home was monotonous and quite long, we went literally non-stop to Unhost, six hours straight. My wife says that once I stop speaking it is the sure sign of tiredness and she began to worry, but we had about 4 short breaks and two Red Bulls!
