MAGNY-COURS, 28th AUGUST 2011. In the earlier 63rd edition of the 24 Hours of Spa, DVB RACING clinched an excellent podium and as such headed on down to Magny-Cours highly motivated this last weekend to compete in the 4th round of the Blancpain Endurance Series. Following this successful run at the 24 Hours of Spa the Italian duo Raffaele Sangiuolo and Giuseppe de Pasquale were back in action with DVB Racing in the BMW M3 of the Belgian team in the GT4 class. The team having started from third place on the grid battled it out during three hours for the podium. At the finish the two Italians had to give in to the winning Nissan and the two Lotus Evora, but notwithstanding that DVB RACING leave France in third place in the championship. The team now hardly have time for a break, as next coming weekend the Willebroek-based team are competing in the Six Hours of Zolder, a Dutch Supercar Challenge race, being held in conjunction with the 24 Hours of Zolder. Here Wim Lumbeeck, Tom Langeberg and Ron Marchal will be sharing the Chrysler Viper GT-R.
The fourth round of the Blancpain Endurance Series, a championship catering for cars in the GT3 and GT4 class, was now coming up for its fourth race. GT4 is a category, reserved for GT cars, which are very close to the standard series models. Amongst others Porsche, Aston Martin, Nissan, Lotus and BMW are the main players in this category.
Following on from the 24 hours race at Spa the event was now back to its traditional 180 minutes or 3 hours format; however the race was exceptionally held on Saturday evening.
Frank Thuriaux: "During the qualifying sessions Giuseppe de Pasquale put in an excellent third best time proving that we were once again on top form. On top of that we discovered that by analysing the sector times we could have gone faster and that Guiseppe had come within times of the pole, and this without any problems. Traffic on the track, as we do race together with the faster GT3 cars, and the latter did not leave us very much room, meant that we could not make it into first or second spot. However we were fully confident for the race ahead which ran faultlessly. Guiseppe took a strong start and was able to keep up, however Raffaele had more trouble in getting into the rhythm. Notwithstanding that we remained in contact with the top-3 but just missed out on a podium place."
DVB RACING is now preparing for the final round of the Blancpain Endurance Series with their BMW M3 on the F1 circuit at Silverstone (9/10). Raffaele Sangiuolo and Giuseppe de Pasquale will once again be defending the colours of the Belgian team. DVB RACING is also competing in the second half of the Belcar Endurance Championship, kicking off with the 24 Hours of Zolder, being held during the first weekend of September. In the first instance the Belgian team is counting on the fast and highly reliable Chrysler Viper GTS-R on Belgian soil.
