Monza - antique circuit became the synonym for „the temple of speed"- four straights, then chicane, only one corner taken at high speed that suited the Red Bulls. How can Vettel degrade the rest of the field with a car set to the lowest top speed? Easy, because math is a precise science. Whereas all the others are „geared up" almost to the aerodynamic ceiling of the longest straight and „gain" thousands of a second in breaking into the chicane, Vettel gains tens of a second in acceleration from almost zero speeds, thanks to his shorter gears. Red Bull didn't show off too much in the free practice, but in the qualification they set off dynamite. Vettel ridiculed the faster of the McLarens - Hamilton by six tenth of a second on a circuit that wasn't supposed to fit the Red Bulls according to their own experts. In that moment, everybody understood, there was nothing they could do about it.
Not even the start when Alonso sneaked in a perfect but risky way to the lead could change anything about that, but that was only an episode. Vettel paid him back and since then he was only making the gap wider by half a second on each lap and if he had wanted to take risks he might have had more than thirty second advantage in the finish.
The race was dramatic only at the start, when Liuzzi with the slowest car, starting from the last lap shot himself down in an unbelievable folly in the first chicane, taking Rosberg and Petrov with him. The mass collision resulted in the pit stop of several others, but that equalled up by the Safety Car. You should understand that the Liuzzi's stunt doesn't happen even in formula 3 and the responsible marshals should consider whether he is not too much of a liability for the highest category of the motorsport. Schumacher gained from the following restart the third place behind Alonso and began defending his position mightily from Hamilton. Right after that Webber set Massa spinning, lost his front wing and without it, had an accident in parabollica. This collision slowed Button down behind him, who was then deleting the more than twenty second gap to Alonso. He overtook him without trouble some time later and gained another almost ten seconds over him. In the end Hamilton finally managed to overtake Schumacher, but he couldn't catch up with Alonso. Massa in the sixth place was the last one in the same lap before Alguersuari, Di Resta, Senna and Buemi.
Vettel, who was in his own race from the beginning, became almost sure champion for this year and there are merely the positions behind him to be fought for in the rest of the season.
