Kamila Mazur wins contest to design helmet for Nick Heidfeld

21.07.11, Cologne - Kamila Mazur from Orly in Poland has designed the helmet that will be worn by Lotus Renault GP driver Nick Heidfeld in his home race at the Nürburgring. Kamila's design (Entry No. 11452) was selected by Heidfeld and his long-serving helmetdesigner Jens Munser from over 1,500 submissions sent in to Heidfeld's official website at nick-heidfeld.com.

"This time, the decision was not as easy as in 2009 when the winning entry immediately caught my eye," said Heidfeld. "There were a lot of interesting, ingenious and above all different designs, so it took me quite a while to pick the Top 10 and then choose the outright winner. I only made my final decision after repeated viewing; it was the overall look that mattered most to me."

The second decisive factor after pure visual appeal was the underlying concept: "The way the gears are intermeshed symbolises the cooperative mentality within a Formula One team, where one wheel gives momentum to the next. It also represents my driving style and my approach to Formula One racing. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the finished item."

Helmet artist Munser is also impressed by Kamila's overall concept: "The basic idea of the gear wheels is great. I like it a lot because it is an accurate depiction of the way a Formula One team works." At the same time, however, he is also keen to stress the quality of the entries in general: "The choice still wasn't easy - there were plenty of really great helmets and, above all, a wide variety of approaches." The lucky winner Kamila Mazur feels greatly honoured to have had her entry chosen for this special helmet: "I'm just happy that Nick liked my design so well and that he picked it as his winner."

But she is also very pleased to be playing her part in supporting a worthy cause: following the race at the Nürburgring, the helmet will be handed over to the German broadcaster RTL who will auction it off as part of the Wir helfen Kindern telethon. "I am very happy that my talents will be used to help Nick with his charity work. I feel proud that I can play a small part in this campaign and that my helmet is helping children in need." You can start submitting bids for the helmet right now by e-mail at auktion@spendenmarathon.de.

Kamila is already very excited about the presentation ceremony in the paddock at the Nürburgring ahead of Friday's first free practice session, because up to now, she has never experienced the thrill of watching Formula One live from the grandstands. Please find an image of the helmet attached.
